An inspiring autobiographical memoir of a woman who outlived an entire childhood of abuse, and then some, to find success and happiness in her life as a mother of four amazing grown children, and as a professional artist.
Incredibly detailed memories written in storytelling form, take you through a journey enduring and surviving abuse by an older cousin, two older brothers, her mother, and a few ex-husbands.
Grappling with abuse and the reasons behind the abuse, Diane decided not to let it all control her life. Even though abuse is a large part of her personal tapestry, what she’s made of, this graphic recollection of events of years of childhood sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse, at the hands of family, reveals valuable lessons and useful life survival skills. The collective wisdom and experiences of survival have proven to be useful to help realize happiness and success she never thought she would have.
Diane and her younger brother, Jim (Smokey) West, have both achieved levels of happiness and success they never thought possible. They used and tailored the gifts with which they were born, to survive and leave the nest. If you suffer PTSD from abuse, just know, even if you cannot leave it all behind, that getting there, somewhere awesome, is possible. Life is a quizzical & beautiful thing.

not because their work is similar or even that it goes together visually nor is there a common theme. The commonality is where the art comes from. They work for themselves; and as different as they are from each other, each artist intuitively responds to the world outside, from their world inside, creating visceral works expressing their soul's response to the world from within the world beneath the Skin.
